Before this feature, Meta Horizon lacked a centralized repository, forcing creators to build every object from scratch or manually copy assets between worlds. The challenge was designing a 0-to-1 spatial asset library that could seamlessly scale from a personal storage tool (MVP) to a decentralized, community-driven ecosystem (V1).
I owned the end-to-end design of a interconnected, two-part asset ecosystem: a Personal Library for private object storage and reuse, and a Public Marketplace for community sharing, discovery, and remixing.
Research & architecture: Conducted competitive analysis across 2D engines and spatial platforms to identify creator needs, jobs to be done and design strategy. Partnered with Content Design to map out a hybrid Information Architecture and product taxonomy from scratch.
Spatial layout & interface design: Designed the end-to-end layouts for the asset library dashboard and deep asset detail pages. Designed media card interactions and search functionality.
Iconography & asset identification: Researched and designed the initial structural drafts for library icons, optimizing shapes to ensure clear asset identification. Co-led the final refinement with Visual Design to make the iconography production-ready.
Ecosystem strategy & XFN leadership: Successfully pushed for and designed the sharing and remixability permission models, unblocking community-driven collaboration. Guided the MVP and V1 frameworks through executive design reviews with Meta leadership and collaborated daily with engineering to launch the system.
Designed and launched a 0-to-1 asset library that shifted Horizon from a scratch-built ecosystem to a modular, open-source community—achieving a 90% adoption rate across all active game worlds.
